Most of the people who visit Yellowstone
National Park will tell you that one trip is not enough. Regardless of how much time you have to spend, there really is something for everyone. Just remember if you can't get to everything on your list of things to do during your visit, you can always come back for more! Below are additional activites to add to your adventures throughout the park.
Bird Watching & Wildlife Viewing
View an incredible range of birds and wildlife from ospreys, sand hill cranes, bald eagles, herons and ducks to bison, elk, deer, pronghorn antelope, wolves and bears. Wildlife and bird watching is a possibility park-wide. We recommend you visit the National Park Service visitor centers for the latest information on wildlife viewing opportunities.
**The animals in Yellowstone are wild and unpredictable. While amazing to watch, certain guidelines apply for the health and safety of the wildlife and our visitors. Consult the park newspaper or the National Park Service for specifics on appropriate wildlife watching.
Camping & Backpacking
Camping is allowed in designated sites. Our developed sites include Bridge Bay Campground, Canyon Campground, Grant Village Campground, Fishing Bridge RV Park and Madison Campground.
Reservations are accepted for Xanterra-operated campgrounds. Please call 307.344.7311 for reservations.
The National Park Service operates front country and backcountry campgrounds as well. Backpacking is allowed in the backcountry and National Park Service permits are required for campsites. Please call 307.344.7381 for further information on the National Park Service campgrounds.
Hiking
Hiking trails are located throughout the park. We suggest you visit with a ranger at an National Park Service Visitor Center concerning trail conditions before hiking. Xanterra also offers a hiking-orienting Lodging and Learning package called "Trails Through Yellowstone."
Interpretive Programs
National Park Service rangers offer a wide variety of interpretive and educational programs throughout the year. Programs are accessible from all lodging properties. Xanterra Parks & Resorts also offers a mix of short and long interpretive activities and tours from full-day bus tours of the park to short boat tours of Yellowstone Lake. The National Park Service offers visitor centers throughout Yellowstone National Park. You will find a wide range of natural and cultural exhibits. Some of the visitor centers are set up specifically for issuing backcountry permits only and offer no other facilities.
